🌍 Geographic Range: 

Hormurus waigiensis, commonly known as the rainforest scorpion, has a range that stretches beyond northern Australia and covers a significant part of the Australo-Papuan region. In Australia it is found primarily in Queensland, where it inhabits the humid tropical and subtropical rainforests of the northeast.

Its distribution runs from the Townsville area northwards through the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and up into Cape York Peninsula.

Beyond Australia it occurs in Papua New Guinea and across parts of eastern Indonesia, including the Moluccas and surrounding islands, and it is considered one of the most widely distributed members of its genus.

🏡 Microhabitat Preferences:

H. waigiensis thrives in sheltered, moist microhabitats such as beneath rotting logs, stones, and dense ground litter. It's broad range reflects its ecological flexibility within rainforest environments, though it still depends on consistently high humidity and shaded conditions to prevent desiccation.
