🌍 Geographic Range: 

Euscorpius italicus is native to southern Europe, including most of Italy, southern France, the Balkans, and parts of the Iberian Peninsula, and extends eastward through Greece, Turkey, and the Caucasus into western Asia. It is widely distributed on many Mediterranean islands, including Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, Crete, and several Aegean islands.

🏡 Microhabitat Preferences:

Euscorpius italicus thrives in dry, rocky, and often human-modified landscapes. It is one of the most synanthropic Eurasian scorpions, frequently inhabiting stone walls, building foundations, ruins, cellars, and garden rockeries, where it makes use of cracks and crevices as retreats. 

In natural settings it occupies xeric rocky slopes, cliff faces, and stony hillsides, seeking narrow fissures and stable microclimates beneath stones or within rock outcrops. It is especially common in lowland and coastal Mediterranean habitats but also occurs at moderate elevations in the foothills of the Alps and other mountain chains, provided that sufficient rocky refuges are present. 

The species’ tolerance of dry microhabitats and its ability to exploit artificial stonework contribute to its success in urban and rural environments throughout its range.
