Javanimetrus cyaneus, formerly known as Heterometrus cyaneus, is a species of large scorpion belonging to the family Scorpionidae. It is commonly referred to as the Asian Blue Forest Scorpion due to its distinctive bluish coloration and its preference for forested habitats.

HABITAT

🌍 Geographic Range:

Javanimetrus cyaneus is a Southeast Asian scorpion with a confirmed distribution across parts of southern Thailand, Indonesia (including Sumatra, Java, Bali, Borneo, Nias, and Madura), Borneo (Malaysia: Sabah & Sarawak), the Nicobar Islands (India), and the Philippines (Luzon, Laguna Province).

Its range is largely associated with tropical island and coastal rainforest regions, and some older reports from outside these areas are considered unreliable or the result of misidentification..

🏡 Microhabitat Preferences:

This species is a fossorial rainforest scorpion that prefers hard, clay-rich soils, where it constructs and occupies burrows, often in earthen banks. It is also commonly found sheltering beneath stones, logs, and dense ground cover, particularly in humid forest environments. At night it may be observed sitting at the entrance of its burrow, while during the day it typically remains hidden under cover. Confirmed records show it occurring from lowland forest up to roughly mid-elevation habitats.
