Pandipalpus viatoris

£59.99Price

Once relatively common within the UK hobby, Pandipalpus viatoris has become increasingly difficult to obtain due to challenges surrounding its importation, making it a rarely encountered species today. Known for its somewhat defensive and aggressive temperament, this species shares physical characteristics with both the commonly kept Asian Forest Scorpions (Heterometrus) and the Emperor Scorpion (Pandinus imperator), occasionally leading to confusion between them.

Originally described in 1890 as Scorpio viatoris, the species has undergone several taxonomic changes, having previously been classified under Pandinus and Pandinurus before being transferred to Pandipalpus in 2020.

Interestingly, the species name viatoris comes from the Latin word for "traveller", giving this scorpion a rather fitting historical name.
