Opistophthalmus carinatus, commonly known as the Robust Burrowing Scorpion, is a species reaching up to 12 cm in length. One of its most fascinating characteristics is its remarkable variation in colouration, ranging from golden-brown and orange to deep reddish-brown, with some individuals displaying considerably more vibrant colours than others.
Sexual dimorphism is evident, with females typically exhibiting a glossier appearance and a distinctive trident-like 'V' marking towards the front of the carapace. Males generally display lighter, more yellowish colouration with noticeably longer, more slender pincers.
